Does the amount of fluid in colistin matter for ventilator pneumonia?
NCT ID NCT06230614
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether using a smaller or larger amount of fluid to mix the antibiotic colistin affects how well it works in patients on ventilators with pneumonia. Sixty intensive care patients will receive the same dose of colistin but mixed with either 1 ml or 2 ml of saline. Researchers will measure drug levels in the lungs and blood, and track recovery time and side effects like nebulizer clogs.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- colistin
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors choose the best way to give colistin inhalation therapy to ventilated patients, potentially improving treatment effectiveness.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (60 people) that only looks at how the drug is prepared, not a new treatment. It may not lead to major changes in care.
