Common drug tested to stop dangerous heartbeat after major surgery

NCT ID NCT07287345

Summary

This study is testing if adding the anti-inflammatory drug colchicine to standard care can lower inflammation and prevent new irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation) after coronary artery bypass surgery. About 24 adults scheduled for this surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either colchicine or a placebo pill, with neither patients nor doctors knowing who gets which. The small pilot study will measure inflammation levels, track irregular heartbeat occurrences, and monitor for side effects to help plan a larger future trial.
