Smart implant fights swelling to boost hearing

NCT ID NCT06424262

Summary

This study is testing a new type of cochlear implant designed to slowly release a common anti-inflammatory steroid (dexamethasone) after surgery. The goal is to see if reducing swelling around the implant leads to better device performance and hearing results compared to a standard implant. The trial involves 48 adults with severe to profound hearing loss in both ears who are eligible for a cochlear implant.
