Scientists test if new drug can reach unborn babies
NCT ID NCT04732260
Summary
This study aimed to measure how much of a new antiviral drug called letermovir passes from a pregnant woman to her fetus. It involved 7 women in their second trimester who were already scheduled to end their pregnancies due to fetal abnormalities. Researchers gave the women the drug and then measured drug levels in fetal blood, amniotic fluid, and the placenta to see if enough medication reached the fetus to potentially fight a common viral infection called CMV.
