French study questions need to stop blood thinners before eye surgery

NCT ID NCT03863548

First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at 748 adults having retina or vitreous eye surgery to see if taking blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) increases the risk of dangerous bleeding during or after the operation. The goal was to find out whether it is safe to continue these medications instead of stopping them before surgery. The study did not ask doctors to change their usual practices, just to observe what happened.
