New blood-sampling device aims to cut transfusions in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT06478160
First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study looks at whether using a closed-blood sampling device (CBSD) instead of the usual method of discarding some blood before testing can reduce the amount of blood taken from critically ill adults in the ICU. About 216 patients will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The goal is to see if the CBSD leads to fewer red blood cell transfusions and fewer complications like infections or blockages in the arterial line.
