Which steroid works best for thick, itchy skin plaques?
NCT ID NCT07666620
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two standard steroid treatments for hypertrophic lichen planus, a chronic skin condition that causes thick, intensely itchy plaques. Fifty adults will be randomly assigned to apply a strong steroid cream twice daily for 12 weeks or receive steroid injections into the lesions every 4 weeks. The goal is to see which approach better reduces plaque thickness and itching.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream and triamcinolone acetonide injection
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show which standard steroid treatment works better for reducing plaque thickness and itching in hypertrophic lichen planus.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both treatments are already used, so no major breakthrough is expected.
