New combo therapy aims to control stubborn leukemia

NCT ID NCT04169737

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding an immunotherapy drug (obinutuzumab) early to a two-drug combo (acalabrutinib and venetoclax) can better control chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) that is high-risk, has returned, or stopped responding to treatment. About 168 adults will receive the two-drug backbone, with half also getting the third drug early. The goal is to see if the triple therapy can clear cancer cells from the bone marrow more effectively. This is not a cure, as ongoing management may still be needed.
