Tongue-Side attachments may cut white spot risk in clear aligners
NCT ID NCT07368296
First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looked at whether placing the small bumps (attachments) used with clear aligners on the tongue side of teeth can reduce white spot lesions—chalky marks that can form during orthodontic treatment. Fifty-two healthy young adults with mild to moderate crowding were randomly assigned to have attachments on the cheek side or tongue side. Researchers measured changes in tooth mineral loss and plaque buildup to see if the tongue-side placement helps keep teeth healthier.
