Cast or walk? new study tests best recovery for foot fractures

NCT ID NCT07477327

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two non-surgical treatments for a type of foot fracture called a Chopart injury. One group wears a cast or boot for 6 weeks, while the other uses a rigid-soled shoe and walks as tolerated. The goal is to see which approach leads to better recovery, less stiffness, and faster return to normal walking. The trial will enroll 70 adults and measure outcomes like foot function and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cast immobilization or rigid-sole shoe

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that early walking with a rigid shoe is as safe as a cast and leads to faster recovery and less stiffness.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Early walking might cause pain or slow healing in some people.
