Newborn gut treatment study pulled before it even started

NCT ID NCT06547424

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study aimed to see if a supplement called chondroitin sulfate is safe for very small newborns with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a severe gut infection. The plan was to give some babies the supplement and others a placebo, then compare death rates, need for surgery, and long-term development. However, the study was withdrawn before enrolling any participants, so no results are available.
