Eye gel may block infection prevention before surgery

NCT ID NCT05934253

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a numbing eye gel (chloroprocaine 3%) creates a barrier that stops povidone-iodine, a germ-killing solution used before eye surgery, from working properly. 100 adults had bacteria swabs taken from their eyes before and after the gel and germ-killer were applied. The goal was to see if the gel reduced the germ-killer's effectiveness.
