Braces breakthrough? varnish fights gum trouble and decay

NCT ID NCT07115784

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a special dental varnish (chlorohexidine) in 22 people with braces to see if it could reduce gum overgrowth, plaque buildup, and early white spots on teeth. Each person's mouth was split in half—one side got the active varnish, the other a placebo—and changes were measured over 3 months. The goal was to find a simple way to manage common side effects of orthodontic treatment.
