New nasal spray tested to calm kids before surgery, reduce Post-Op tantrums

NCT ID NCT06417125

Summary

This study tested whether a nasal spray (dexmedetomidine) works better than a common oral liquid (midazolam) at reducing anxiety before surgery and preventing negative behavior changes afterward in young children. Researchers enrolled 324 children aged 2-5 having tonsil or adenoid surgery. They compared which drug led to fewer problems like agitation upon waking and behavioral issues in the month after surgery.
