Scientists map how kids learn to hear in echoey spaces
NCT ID NCT05815537
Summary
This study aimed to understand how children develop the ability to locate sounds and separate speech from background noise in everyday echoey environments like classrooms and homes. Researchers tested 116 children ages 6-18 with normal hearing using virtual sound environments, comparing their performance to adults. The study measured how well children could detect sound location, judge sound width, and pick out speech from competing talkers under different echo conditions.
