Gentler sleep for scans: natural hormone vs traditional sedative tested on kids

NCT ID NCT06606899

Summary

This study compared two sedation methods to help young children stay still during brain MRI scans. Researchers tested whether a combination using melatonin (a natural sleep hormone) worked as well as the standard chloral hydrate sedative, both given with a mild inhaled anesthetic. The trial involved 60 children aged 2-5 years to see which approach provided better, safer sedation for completing these important medical images.
