Doctors measure Kids' fingers to find better way to pick breathing tubes

NCT ID NCT07349953

Summary

This study aimed to see if measuring a child's finger size could be a simple way to help doctors choose the correct size breathing tube for surgery. Researchers observed 103 children up to 8 years old who needed a breathing tube for planned surgery. They compared the tube size chosen using standard age-based formulas to the size chosen by measuring the child's fingers and other body measurements.
