Summary

This study tested a new surgical approach for people with Chiari malformation and type II skull base depression. The surgery combined decompression, joint release, and fusion to relieve pressure on the brain and spinal cord while keeping the neck stable. 64 adults who had not had prior surgery took part. The goal was to see if this combined surgery improves symptoms and quality of life better than older methods.
