New X-Ray trick could make port placements safer and cheaper
NCT ID NCT07549035
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a simple measurement from a chest X-ray can help doctors place the tip of a long-term IV port in the right spot. 69 adults getting a port for chemotherapy or other treatments took part. The method uses landmarks on an existing X-ray to estimate the correct catheter length before insertion, aiming to reduce complications like blood clots or infections. Results will show if this low-cost technique works as well as more complex methods.
