Summary

This study tested a surgery that cuts certain heart nerves to reduce life-threatening fast heartbeats in people with Chagas heart disease. 45 patients with an implanted defibrillator who had multiple shocks were randomly assigned to medication, catheter ablation, or the nerve surgery. The goal was to see if the surgery could delay or reduce the number of dangerous heart rhythm episodes compared to standard treatments.
