Dye-Enhanced ultrasound may improve liver biopsy success
NCT ID NCT07249268
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared two ways to guide a needle biopsy of suspicious liver lumps: standard ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), which uses a special dye to make blood vessels and lesions show up better. Researchers looked at 330 patients to see if CEUS leads to more successful biopsies. The goal is to find out if the dye helps doctors get a better tissue sample for diagnosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
contrast agent (dye) used during ultrasound
What this could lead to
If CEUS proves more effective, it could become the preferred method for guiding liver biopsies, leading to more accurate diagnoses.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, so results are already known. The benefit may be small or limited to certain types of liver lesions.
