C-Section stitch showdown: which method prevents painful scar defects?

NCT ID NCT07554001

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at 366 women having their first planned C-section to compare two stitching methods for closing the uterus: a single layer of unlocked stitches versus a double layer. The goal was to see which method reduces the chance of developing a uterine niche—a small defect in the scar that can cause spotting, pain, or irregular bleeding. Researchers found that the double-layer closure led to fewer niche problems.
