Can a webcam replace expensive neck sensors? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07181798

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study will test whether a computer vision system using a simple camera can accurately measure how well people sense the position and movement of their neck. 74 healthy adults will perform head movements while a camera tracks their nose tip. The goal is to see if this non-invasive, low-cost method can be a reliable tool for assessing neck proprioception, which could help in diagnosing and managing neck disorders.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple, accessible tool for assessing neck proprioception in clinics or research.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study in healthy people only. The system may not work as well in real-world settings or in people with neck problems.
