New surgical position may protect brain during laparoscopic surgery
NCT ID NCT07632287
First seen Jun 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study compared two different patient positions during laparoscopic gynecological surgery to see which one better protects brain oxygen levels and reduces eye nerve pressure. Researchers monitored 70 patients using non-invasive sensors to measure brain oxygenation and eye nerve diameter. The goal was to see if a modified position with bent legs is safer than the standard head-down tilt position.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to safer surgical positioning that reduces brain pressure and improves patient outcomes during laparoscopic procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to all patients or surgeries. The modified position may not show significant benefits over the standard one.
