Massive ICU trial aims to settle debates on blood pressure and transfusions
NCT ID NCT06605144
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 42 times
Summary
This study is enrolling 5,500 ICU patients to compare different approaches to routine care: how low to let blood pressure go before using drugs, when to give platelet transfusions, and how to provide nutrition. The goal is to find out which strategies lead to better survival and recovery. It is a platform trial, meaning new questions can be added over time.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vasopressors, platelet transfusions, and nutrition strategies
What this could lead to
If successful, this trial could identify the best routine ICU practices for blood pressure targets, platelet transfusion triggers, and nutrition, potentially improving survival and recovery for critically ill patients.
What could go wrong
This is a large, pragmatic trial, but it tests common interventions where differences may be small. Results may not apply to all ICU patients, and some strategies could carry risks like organ damage or bleeding.
