Massive study reveals Real-World risks of common hospital procedure
NCT ID NCT07367620
First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looked at over 29,000 patients to find out how often immediate complications happen when doctors insert a central venous catheter (a large IV placed in a major vein). The goal was to identify which patient, doctor, and procedure factors increase the risk of serious problems like severe bleeding, dangerous heart rhythms, collapsed lung, or nerve injury. No new treatments were tested; researchers simply collected data from routine care to better understand and potentially predict these risks.
