Summary
This study tested a cell-based treatment designed to help the esophagus heal after surgery to remove early-stage esophageal cancer. The goal was to prevent painful narrowing (stenosis) of the throat, a common complication, especially in patients at high risk for problems with steroid medications. Doctors transplanted specially prepared cells onto the surgical wound site to try to promote better healing and keep the esophagus open.
