NCT ID NCT06885047
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study will test a culturally adapted cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocol for teenagers aged 12-17 in Mexico City who have severe suicidal thoughts or recent attempts. About 60 youth and their caregivers will be randomly assigned to either the new therapy or standard care. The goal is to see if the therapy reduces suicidal ideation and depression, and to understand how it could be implemented in the public health system.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Socio-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicidal Behavior (SCBT-SB)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective, culturally tailored therapy to reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors among at-risk youth in Mexico.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy may not prove more effective than standard care, and long-term benefits are unknown.
