Heart surgery catheter dangers: study investigates infection and failure rates

NCT ID NCT07138690

Summary

This study looked back at medical records to understand how often serious infections and early removal (failure) happen with central lines in adult patients who had heart surgery. Researchers analyzed data from 480 patients to see how common these complications were when catheters were placed in a specific neck vein using ultrasound guidance. The goal is to use this information to make these essential medical devices safer and prevent problems for future patients.
