Cash for care: can money save mothers and babies?

NCT ID NCT04090762

Summary

This study tested if giving cash payments to pregnant women for getting recommended medical care could improve birth outcomes and prevent deaths. Over 36,000 pregnant women in Nigeria were randomly assigned to receive different cash amounts if they used prenatal services and gave birth at a health facility. The goal was to see if this financial incentive leads to more women getting skilled care, which could prevent many maternal and newborn deaths.
