New technique aims to make artery stenting safer, reduce stroke risk

NCT ID NCT07247864

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a temporary blood flow blocker (balloon guide catheter) to the standard filter device makes carotid artery stenting safer. The procedure treats narrowed neck arteries that can cause strokes, but it can sometimes release tiny debris that travels to the brain. Researchers want to see if the combined approach catches more debris and leads to fewer brain injuries after the procedure. About 296 patients scheduled for stenting will be randomly assigned to receive either the new combined protection or the standard filter alone.
