Do stents cause silent brain spots? new study scans for answers

NCT ID NCT03982420

Summary

This study aimed to see if a specific procedure to open a narrowed neck artery (carotid artery) causes tiny, often silent, spots of injury in the brain. Researchers performed special brain scans on 55 patients before and after they received a standard stent procedure to treat their carotid artery disease. The goal was to measure how often these brain spots occur and if they last, to better understand the safety of the treatment.
