New care plan aims to save premature babies from deadly gut disease

NCT ID NCT05934123

Summary

This study tested whether a new set of care guidelines could help more premature babies receive their own mother's milk and reduce cases of a life-threatening gut disease called necrotising enterocolitis (NEC). Researchers looked at data from over 53,000 babies born very early across 11 hospitals in the East Midlands of England. The goal was to see if implementing these standardized support practices for mothers and nutritional care for babies made a difference.
