Exercise may ease breathing in kids with sunken chest
NCT ID NCT07300748
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a program of cardiopulmonary exercise—using a stationary bike plus breathing and posture exercises—can help children aged 5 to 18 with pectus excavatum (a sunken chest). Fifty children took part, and researchers measured changes in breathing strength, exercise ability, and posture. The goal is to see if exercise can ease symptoms without surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cardiopulmonary exercise (bicycle ergometer, breathing and posture exercises)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-surgical way to improve breathing and posture in children with pectus excavatum.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 50 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises may not significantly improve symptoms for all.
