MRI may replace grueling exercise tests for cancer surgery patients

NCT ID NCT06544187

First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple MRI scan can measure a person's fitness for major cancer surgery instead of the usual exercise bike test. The MRI checks fat levels in the thigh muscle, which might predict how well someone will handle surgery. Researchers will compare MRI results with standard exercise test results in 56 people with stomach, esophageal, or pancreatic cancer. If successful, this could offer a less physically demanding option for patients who cannot do exercise tests.
