No-Radiation tooth scanner could replace X-Rays for cavity detection
NCT ID NCT07342595
First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tests a new dental scanner that uses safe near-infrared light to find early tooth decay without radiation. About 50 adults who already need a tooth pulled will have the scanner check that tooth and nearby teeth, taking just 5 extra minutes. The results will be compared to standard visual exams and X-rays to see if the scanner is just as accurate. If it works well, dentists may catch cavities earlier and treat them with less drilling.
