First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study looked at whether measuring carbon dioxide in a person's breath (called EtCO₂) can help doctors quickly identify severe cases of pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs). Researchers measured EtCO₂ in 120 people, including those with different levels of clot severity and healthy volunteers. The goal was to see if this simple, noninvasive test could help guide treatment decisions and monitor early recovery.
