Summary

This study is testing a new stool test that measures a protein called calprotectin, which is a sign of inflammation in the gut. The goal is to see how well the test can help doctors tell the difference between inflammatory bowel diseases (like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and irritable bowel syndrome. About 220 adults with symptoms like belly pain, diarrhea, or weight loss will provide a stool sample before or after a colonoscopy. The results will help improve diagnosis and reduce the need for invasive procedures.
