Simple stool test could spot gut diseases faster

NCT ID NCT06810518

First seen Feb 15, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study is testing a new stool test that measures a protein called calprotectin, which is a sign of inflammation in the gut. The goal is to see if the test can help doctors tell the difference between inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn's or colitis) and irritable bowel syndrome. About 220 adults with symptoms like belly pain or diarrhea will provide a stool sample before or after a colonoscopy. The results may lead to a simpler way to diagnose these conditions.
