Natural compound tested to fight rare brain disease

NCT ID NCT04658823

Summary

This study tested whether a natural vitamin E compound called palm tocotrienols (HOV-12020) could slow down the progression of CADASIL, a rare inherited brain disease that causes strokes and cognitive decline. Fifty patients with confirmed CADASIL took either the study drug or a placebo for two years while researchers tracked whether they experienced new strokes, increased disability, or cognitive decline. The goal was to see if this natural supplement could help control the disease and prevent worsening symptoms.
