New drug cocktail aims to stall Hard-to-Treat gut tumors
NCT ID NCT05048901
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a combination of two drugs—cabozantinib (a daily pill) and lanreotide (a monthly injection)—in people with advanced gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) that have stopped responding to prior treatments. The trial has two phases: the first finds the safest dose, and the second measures how long the cancer stays under control. About 49 participants will be enrolled.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cabozantinib and lanreotide
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced GEP-NET whose cancer has stopped responding to other targeted therapies or chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 49 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The combination may cause significant side effects, and it is not yet known if it will improve survival.
