First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looked at 252 adults who had surgery for a burst abdomen (when the belly incision reopens after an operation). Researchers compared two repair methods: primary repair (stitching the wound back together) and component separation (a more complex technique). The goal was to see which method lowers the risk of wound infection and later hernias. The study found that component separation may reduce these complications.
