Scientists probe hidden causes of childhood lung damage
NCT ID NCT02586883
Summary
This study aimed to understand why some children develop unexplained widening of their airways (bronchiectasis) by comparing how salt and fluid move across the airway lining. Researchers tested 42 children and young adults, including those with the condition, those with cystic fibrosis, and healthy controls, using specialized airway measurements and cell cultures. The goal was to identify specific transport problems that might cause mucus buildup and lung damage when no other known cause exists.
