Spine surgery spark: could a jolt of electricity help patients regain bladder control?
NCT ID NCT06416878
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study explores whether a short burst of electrical stimulation applied during and after spine surgery can help nerves recover in people with cauda equina syndrome, a condition that can cause bladder, bowel, and sexual problems. About 40 adults having emergency surgery will receive the stimulation. The main goal is to see if this approach is practical and safe, and to measure any improvements in nerve function.
