Spine surgery spark: could a quick ZAP help restore bladder control?

NCT ID NCT06416878

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study explores whether a short burst of electrical stimulation applied during emergency spine surgery can help nerves recover faster in people with cauda equina syndrome, a condition that can cause bladder, bowel, and sexual problems. About 40 adults undergoing surgery will receive the stimulation, and researchers will measure nerve signals and recovery over 3 months. The main goal is to see if this approach is feasible and safe for a future larger trial.
