New device zaps breathing muscles to help ICU patients

NCT ID NCT06832306

Summary

This study is testing a device that gently stimulates the main breathing muscle (the diaphragm) in patients who are on a breathing machine in the ICU. The goal is to see if this stimulation helps support their breathing and may reduce lung injury caused by the ventilator. About 30 patients with severe breathing failure will be randomly assigned to receive the stimulation along with standard care or standard care alone.
