New study aims to predict when preemies can breathe on their own

NCT ID NCT07542301

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at how hard premature babies (born at 32 weeks or earlier) work to breathe just before and right after their breathing tube is removed. Researchers want to see if measuring breathing effort can better predict which babies will succeed without the tube compared to current tests. About 30 infants will take part, and the goal is to improve care for the tiniest patients.
