First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looked at whether keeping a diary of breathing exercises can help prevent lung complications and improve recovery after major abdominal surgery. Sixty adults who had surgery like colorectal or liver resection took part. For three days after surgery, patients in the diary group recorded their breathing exercises, while the control group did not. The researchers tracked breathing, fatigue, and walking ability to see if the diary made a difference.
