Doctors use tattoos to target breast tumors, aim to save breasts

NCT ID NCT07478900

Summary

This study is testing a new method to help surgeons perform breast-conserving surgery more accurately. Before starting chemotherapy, doctors will mark the edges of the breast tumor with a sterile tattoo on the skin, sometimes adding a small clip inside. The goal is to use these marks later to guide surgery, aiming to remove all the cancer while saving as much healthy breast tissue as possible and avoiding a full mastectomy.
