Brain ultrasound may predict shunt success in hydrocephalus patients

NCT ID NCT07285928

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple, non-invasive brain ultrasound can help doctors decide which patients with suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus will benefit from a shunt surgery. About 110 adults will have the ultrasound before a standard spinal tap. The research team will then check if those who had surgery improved after 12 months. The goal is to see if the ultrasound measurements can predict who gets better, potentially avoiding unnecessary surgeries.
