Aggressive new treatment attempts to control recurrent brain tumors in young patients

NCT ID NCT01270724

Summary

This study tested an intensive two-step chemotherapy approach for children and young adults with recurrent brain germ cell tumors. First, patients received several rounds of three chemotherapy drugs, then they received very high-dose chemotherapy supported by their own previously collected stem cells. The goal was to see if this aggressive approach could control these difficult-to-treat recurrent brain tumors and extend survival.
